Tee: Enza Costa // Jeans: Frame // Boots: Old Gringo

I enjoy dressing like a vagabond sometimes.  And isn’t is funny how the more worn out an item is the pricier it tends to be?  I mean if we all had just kept all our dang clothes from high school we’d be set.  But I don’t fit into my clothes from high school so I’ve found some more that I feel are tried and true.  I’ve compiled a few of my favorite ‘worn out’ pieces…and brought along my favorite vintage flag.  I was also worn out by the time we shot this so you can see my favorite wearable red lipstick after like 5 hours of running around.

So let’s talk a red lip.  I could go on for days but there is a tried and true Bobbi Brown shade called Hollywood Red that I always go running back to.  It stays, it’s a great blend of tones and it lasts a long time.

And last but certainly not least, boots.  I love boots more than any type of shoe.  In fact I love boots more than any other piece of clothing.  I have to fight myself from wearing them everyday.  The magic about the Old Gringo pair I’m wearing is that I could run a half marathon in them.  For reals.  But then I must show you this pair that fell from the heavens.  Laurence Decade…sup?

I spy with my little eye(s)…my new favorite boots, without them I’ll die.

Raise your hand if you’re the person who carries the same bag for all occasions?  That is definatley  me.  I am the person in a formal gown or at a wedding reception with a huge bucket bag looking like I’m trying to rack up on wedding favors or something.  Well, here’s the thing I’ve learned…a clutch can make an entire outfit.  In comes the coolest…Lizzie Fortunato.  And I’m wearing her necklace here too.  Her bags and necklaces are a little pricey but they go on sale a lot(like the one in this post) and literally sell out almost immediately.

Another thing I try switching up…my makeup routine.  So I’m a sweater…so glamorous I know.  So if I know I’m going to be a dancing queen I need something full coverage that won’t budge.  Like concealer.  I thought to myself what if I tried to do a whole look with a MAC concealer palette? On the lips(except the liner), on the lids(except a swipe of shadow and liner of course), and all over the face(except a tiny bit of blush and setting powder)…and it turned out well.  I swear by good concealers and ones that allow for unlimited dancing.

Earrings: Kenneth Jay Lane

I’ve never seen a tassel I didn’t love.  From the weird mauve ones on my grandmas curtain treatments to the ones in my ears in these photos.  There is magic in a tassel.  Hassling for tassels even brought my best friend Shawn Johnson and I together one day at the Michaels craft store(full story at the bottom).  So why not do an entire post on tassels.

I love the tassel in the ear with this simple dress and simple Kendra Scott bangle.  This is the perfect canvas for this fancy Star Mela tassel bag.

People often wonder how my best bud Shawn Johnson and I became besties…well it was all over tassels, really.  So, first off she was my judge when I competed in Miss America 5 years ago, you need to know that info for this story to make sense.  So a couple years back I was really obsessed with decorating this huge caribou head I have hanging in my living room for Cinco De Mayo(I’ll explain later).  I was searching every fabric and craft store in Nashville for tassels.  I was in Michaels craft store and I saw a girl from the side and assumed she worked there as she was putting things up in the clearance section.  I said, “Um, excuse me mam, do you know if they sell pre made tassels at Michales?” She turns around and we look at each other and she says, “Miss Kentucky??”  I then yell, “Shawn Johnson, what are you doing here in Nashville?!”  We talked and laughed for like an hour in the clearance section and have been inseparable from that day on.  I found no tassels but a best friend for life.  Funny how tassels bring people together.  Here we are yesterday celebrating her and my sisters engagement.  So grateful for tassels.

Shirt: Rails // Puppy: Louis // Popcicle: Pineapple  (duh) // Bracelet: David Yurman

Hey can I borrow your puppy is a bold move, but one I knew I had to make for this perfect union of Ps.  And if I didn’t find the most precious baby puppy in the world.  Meet Louis.  My new friend.  I’m obsessed with all three of these things.  The puppy and the popsicles for obvious reasons…but the shirt…let me tell you about this shirt.  So I fell for Rails LA shirts last fall.  I’ve never found a flannel shirt that was soft and luxurious that you didn’t have to rip from the paws of some man…then I found Rails…and I own almost 20 of them.  If you buy one beware.  You’ll never go back.  They have fun summer prints like the one I’m wearing in this photo.

And what’s really great is that they have multiple cuts of their perfect shirts.  Such as…

Take my word for it…this will be your favorite shirt brand of all time.  And I had to cut this shoot short because when dogs are this cute I tend to squeeze them too hard.

Oh, and thank you to Louis’ mom!  You are the best.

So, as I promised last week I’m teaching you my ABC’s of beauty as I prepare you for the tutorials.  Here are some more of my absolute favorite makeup and beauty staples.  F through K.

F: Face Moisturizer – Revive: Now there are products in this world that are game changers.  They can change the appearance of something almost immediately and I stand behind them 100%…this is one of these products.  However, these products that work miracles come with a price tag that pays for the miracles.  If you have the extra cash and want a miracle here is your moisturizer.  No matter your age or skin type it is literally perfect.

G: Giorgio Armani – Maestro Liquid Bronzer and Luminous Silk Foundation: As I’ve said before I switch my foundations up a lot.  Here is my other go to when I want a more glowey dewey look.  This is the goddess foundation.  And I love this liquid bronzer.  You can even add it to your other foundations to achieve the dewey bronzed look.

H: HD Powder by Makeup Forever: I use this one everyday on every look.  It sets your makeup and takes away shine.  There are other neutral powders I love like Laura Mercier and Ben Nye but this one is my favorite.  A MUST for makeup application in my opinion.

I: Infinity Sun – Glow On The Go: My beauty secret.  Hands down.  Number one on this list and possibly in the entire alphabet.  My perfect spray tan.  So I love this spray tan because it is green and red based instead of yellow and orange based like many others. I’m going to do a full spray tan tuitorial really soon so I’ll share more about it then.  There is nothing like it in the beauty world.  It makes the biggest difference.

J: Nars – LoveJoy Blush: There are times, especially in the summer where I want a bronzer/blush mix.  I don’t want anything too pink, too brown, or too shimmery, in comes the perfect combination of all three of these things.  Great product!

K: Kat Von D – Shade Light Contour Palette: Oh, my, gosh…you’ll die over this.  I’ve tried the creme contour kits and several powder ones and this one takes the cake(or takes the cake out shall I say).  I use this everyday on the most minimal looks, all the way up to full glam.  I’ve gotten so many people hooked on this palette.  You’ll love it.

So what are your favorite FGHIJK beauty musts?  Post in the comments below!!  Also, you can now enter your email address for post alerts and exclusive content coming soon.  Look for that in the side bar.  Thanks for reading…I can hardly contain myself for the things to come!

So…I’ve spent the weekend chasing waterfalls and such with my family in Smithville, Tn.  I’m the oldest of a wild bunch of 23 first cousins who all grew up on the same farm in Kentucky and when we get together it’s quite magical. It’s a little over an hour from Nashville and there are these fancy cabins you stay in that make it much more like GLAMping than camping, but I’m not complaining.  What a treasure we found in our own backyard…

waterfallCarmack Falls // Smithville, Tn // The Inn at Evins Mill

And one key thing for me whilst adventuring and traveling and such is comfort…in comes this dress that I probably could have fit about half my family in and still had room.

suno                                  Dress: Suno // Shoes: Tory Burch // Bracelets: Cartier

And less is always more on trips like this one.  The less jewels and bags the better.  These bracelets screw on and they don’t come off until I unscrew them…perfect for not getting lost on a vacation in my opinion.  And this tiny tortoise shell monogrammed clutch holds just what I need and is durable and compact…perfect for getaways.

Clutch: The Pink Giraffe Boutique

And most importantly in this quick entry I want to remind you that getaways don’t have to be elaborate.  You don’t have to travel to another country(or even state), take weeks off of work, pack 3 suitcases…sometimes there are treasures like the one my family found this weekend within hours of your home.  And I encourage all of you to find them and make the time to explore this grand land we live upon!…Ok…exciting stuff coming this week!!

Ps…Bug spray takes off spray tan. Bad.

Dress: Rebecca Taylor // Bangles: Cartier, Kenneth Jay Lane and Jade(from China) // Ring: David Yurman

I scream, you scream, we all scream for it but I definitely scream the loudest for it…or the voice inside my head does.  If you ever went to Golden Corall and saw the little girl dipping her soft serve directly into the container of sprinkles, her name was Mallory and that wasn’t her first cone.  The struggle.  And my love of a good ice cream has not left me(unfortunately) as my metabolism slowed and it became unacceptable to dip your cone into the container because I was, well, grown…So I’m always on a hunt for great places in whatever city I’m in for real soft serve and real sprinkles…in comes a Nashville treasure called Bobbie’s Dairy Dip.  And Nums…

icecream4icecream3

Now on to the other Bobbi that was involved…and one I have been in a long term commitment with, Bobbi Brown.  For this look at the Dairy Dip I wanted to wear pinks and purples on my eyes and, duh glitter…and the perfect pink sparkle beautiful shadow you’ve ever known is called Bobbi Brown Watercolor Pink Sparkle Eye Shadow.  You can get it in the Smokey Nudes Eye Palette which is a goto of mine or individually.  I am wearing a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Blush in Coral, and her Metallic Purple Shimmer Gel Liner as my bottom liner.  Bobbis UNITE!

Now for one quick Bobbi story since it is throwback thursday and all…So as I was preparing for my first trip around the world my dad was helping me pack and was completely obsessed with the weight of my pack being under 11 pounds.  So one day I walk out into the garage and he has a hand saw and my Bobbi Brown makeup brushes in his hands, and is proceeding to saw the wooden handle off of all my brushes.  I was like, “Dad, what are you doing!?!”  The man of few words continues sawing and says, “weighs too much.”  “Dad, that’s not going to make that big of a difference and those are so expensive!”  So I started to walk back inside because he usually knows best when he says, “They can’t be that good he’s a rapper he don’t know nothing about makeup.”  He still may not know that the Bobbi Brown that makes my favorite makeup and brushes is not the one who was married to the late Whitney Houston…but whatevs…he meant well.
